Each of the four golfers plays their own ball, and the pairs choose their best score to count for the hole.

However, the golfers must switch off hitting the same ball until it rolls in the cup. The rotation can start fresh the next hole at the discretion of each pair. There is more strategy involved here, and the U.

It is a matchplay competition against the other team, so whichever duo takes the fewest shots wins the hole. Players on each team will take turns to tee off, so one will tee off from the even-numbered holes and the other from the odd-numbered holes.
In fourballs, both players from each team play their own ball, so there are four balls in play on every hole.
