Blacksmithing returns to the game but with a redesigned control system. Rather than waiting to to press 'A' on the green sweet zone, you press either 'A' Green or 'X' Blue when directed on a level paced scroll bar. Unlike Fable II , you increase job levels on the Road to Rule rather than by earning a certain amount of of money through the job. Combos multiplies the amount of money you earn just like the previous game but ends at 10 consecutive combos rather than constantly multiplying.

Jobs are a new type of "quest" introduced in Fable II where the player can make money by playing a small mini-game depending on the job. Fable III changes the jobs available and offers a way to upgrade the jobs, thus earning more money. In Fable II , these jobs can be found in the various towns of the world and include blacksmithing, chopping wood, and bounty hunting, to name a few.
When performing a job, the amount you earn depends on the quality work you do and what level you are at for the specific job. If you do a good job then you begin to get 'Gold Multipliers'. These will multiply your gold by a set number, however if you make a mistake then your multiplier is gone and you have to restart from scratch and try to build it back up again to earn more gold. You level up your job skill by earning money, which in turn levels you up for a promotion. These promotions can be reached when you get a specified amount of money, which is increased by an exponential amount every promotion, making the higher level promotions harder to get!
Every promotion you get gives you more 'Base Money' money at which the first pint is poured or the first sword is forged with every promotion that you get, you have to stop your work then get promoted which gives you a higher base wage. The games get increasingly harder and faster as you earn more gold through promotions but even quicker with the higher the multiplier. Jobs are not the most fun thing to do in Albion, but they sure are the easiest ways of getting money, usually legitimately, not forgetting that when you reach a level 5 promotion you unlock an Achievement!
These jobs are only available at certain times. This will give you a nice little passive income , and allow you to purchase more expensive housing as you earn more. From there you should try to purchase every house you can afford, and then rent them all out to tenants , thereby earning thousands of gold every five minutes by doing absolutely nothing.
Eventually, you will own all available property in Albion and earn a fortune in rent. Makes you want to become a landlord, doesn't it? You will quickly realize that prioritizing shops and taverns when purchasing property is vital. These buildings do not have to be repaired as their condition never deteriorates, which can be great if you're the type of person who can't be bothered to repair your housing properties, as you will be able to earn rent money regardless.
They are all significantly more expensive than the housing, however, so a good way to get started is to purchase the stalls that can be found in most locations in the game world. The added benefit of prioritizing shops and stalls is that you will be able to get discounts on any of the goods they sell. When you purchase property, one of the quickest ways to make money quickly, is to set the rent to the highest level possible.
If done with a high amount of property, you will be earning far more than the property is actually worth, and will find your treasury beginning to overfill with gold. Setting the rent to the highest level possible is going to make a lot of people hate you very quickly. However, you will earn a huge amount of money incredibly quickly, providing you own lots of property.
This will affect your morality in a negative way , making you far eviler than is possible in standard play, so, for good-aligned characters, should only be done when absolutely necessary. Of course, you could argue that all this evil is for the greater good, as Fable 3 gets a lot darker in the second half of the game, and you'll need all the money possible in order to combat the Darkness before it consumes Albion.
The passive income system in Fable 3 is a bit of a double-edged sword , on the one hand, it provides a nice bit of gold while you engage in the main storyline and its side quests, allowing you to spend time actually playing the game, rather than simulating property management. On the other hand, you only receive this money while you are playing the game, as opposed to Fable 2 which lets you earn money even when you aren't playing.
Gone are the days of Fable 2 when you could just leave the game for weeks at a time and come back to an overwhelming amount of wealth.
