The American Alligator was put on the first endangered species list in That same year, Florida was the first in the country to establish new regulations for captive animals which covered minimum pen size for each group of animals, sanitation, and animal care. These new regulations put many roadside zoos out of business, but Gatorland was able to meet the requirements and stay in business.

The establishment stayed strong throughout the 70s and 80s. The building was demolished in October as well as remnants such as the old alligator pits, now just a memory in the hearts of minds of not only those who visited it while it was in operation but the hundreds of people who stopped to get a glimpse of old Florida.

Gatorland offers a unique, Florida cracker-style alligator wrestling show in a shaded seat stadium. Gator wranglers catch a 6 to 8-foot alligator by hand, climb onto its back and point out interesting survival features.

After doing stunts that only a few are brave or foolish enough to try, the alligator is rolled over and put to sleep — only to be awakened by a tickle! Guests can have their photo taken with one of the participants. Guess which one! By far the most unique show is the Jumparoo. Hungry gators leap for chicken appetizers encouraged by the cheers of a fascinated audience. Note that the feeder is chained to his podium to avoid becoming dessert!

Befriend fascinating creatures from around the globe, including some of the most dangerous snakes alive! Yes Gatorland is perfect for kids and young children, with the attractions being child-friendly, and the enthusiastic staff always going the extra mile to make your visit special. You will have access to this rare and wonderful sight.

Make sure while you are there you try the gator nuggets or BBQ gator ribs. While this may seem bizarre to many people not from this area, gator meat is quite delicious and enjoyed by many in Florida.

For an additional premium, guest of the parks can get up close and personal with the alligators in a variety of different events. These adventure tours include simple events as learning how to alligator wrestle to walking through the alligator breeding grounds in a behind the scenes fashion. When you leave the park for the day you will exit through the Gatorland gift shop. This shop, unique as the park, contains many souvenirs that you could only find at this park.

Alligator skin purses, stuffed gators — real and plush — and even a homemade fudge counter are located in the gift shop. Gatorland is well loved by locals and tourists alike.
