Kimbra who is angela vickers

As the lyrics begin, we see a young girl sitting at dinner across from a mannequin. She is wearing an outfit and makeup that makes her seem artificially mature, and she holds a stern expression.

The other girl, also young and dressed to look artificially mature, is wearing pearls and suggests a level of wealth and class. Then we cut to the first girl being a good homemaker: she is scrubbing the floors in a nice dress before trying to vacuum with a toy vacuum, dusting a high place, and exaggeratedly reading a cookbook before trying to make a meal. They gaze into each others eyes before they begin to dance, in sync with each others movements and revealing that there is no true difference but a rivalry continues to exist.

They are prisoners of society, but the dolls suddenly burst into flames and it all comes down as the girls dance. The girls continue to dance, looking happier. Another great irony is the sexual reversal: the three women of the video are real while the only male character is a mannequin.

Society, as the song and video suggest, have turned women into living dolls, and Kimbra re-humanizes them as she de-humanizes the suppressor. At another level, women are taught to find a relationship based on dolls and the artificial, but even the artificial lets them down by its wayward ways.

This is not a song about hate but of freedom. There is a rivalry, but it results in a self-destructive embracing of societal roles that lead to nothing in return. How does the editing fit in with the pace of the song? This helps to make the song more straightforward and simple to watch, adding a more natural realistic effect, keeping to the pace of the lyrics and melody.

Are any specific transitions used? Are there any examples of montage editing? This comes across as controlling or slightly possessive in the sense that if he isn't there something bad will happen hence the fire and burning of the dolls. Alternatively, the dolls represent her childhood dreams so by them being burnt it represents her dreams being shattered.

How is the video sequenced? The sequence illustrates and amplifies the lyrics of the song. As she is singing over it she is putting on a pearl necklace, this could connote the fact that she has the mind of a woman but in reality she is a little girl. The lyrics seem to challenge the dreams of a perfect relationship that the girl has throughout the story because the rhetorical question makes the audience doubt the traditional belief of marriage.

Thank you for your comment and for sharing your perspective and insights! Your analysis and connections are great and I liked your take on the song and video. I like that you pointed out the star song being chant-like and almost like a spell. I enjoyed reading them Have a wonderful day! I love this song but my god the video is terrifying. All those dolls!! Her best song is definitely 'Come Into My Head'.

The man made up to look like a plastic shop dummy looks bland, boring; he never contributes anything, helps, eats his wife's cooking, talks to her re how her day was etc. He's a shop dummy, he can't do any of this anyway, but it suggests that — were he real — he wouldn't bother.

Star song: chant, almost spell. The doll-burning says girls don't have to live like that anymore. As I started making the analysis of the question you presented, I realized that I had not really looked at that part so much, and the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it could have potentially been either interpretation; with one interpretation being slightly more feasible. I lean more towards the first interpretation being happy or having some catharsis of being free of the illusion of the ideal life but can see why the second being sad at being trapped in a doll-life prison and still trying to maintain he illusion could be argued or perceived.

I also thought it interesting that you perceived her dress to have been burnt [to become] black as opposed to just having been black. Thanks for the great and thought-provoking question! I'm confused at the end. With Kimbra smiling in her black burnt dress, is she happy that she's free of the illusion of the ideal life, or is she sad at being trapped in a doll-life prison and still trying to maintain the illusion?

Thank you for your comment and feedback. I am glad that you enjoyed the analysis! I agree with you that Kimbra's look and style are neat and different, which is one of the things I like about her. Many of her songs give something to think about which is also a definite plus. The part with the pearls in the video is really subtle which makes it easy to overlook and I watched the video several times before taking note of the pearls--but the timing, ties, and symbolism were perfect.

Really enjoyed reading your analysis! I loved this song when it first came out, and I found Kimbra's look and style was so neat and different. Reading this made me think back on some of the parts in the music video I didn't realize the part with the pearl necklace and 'Keep him by my side'! Hi yenee kim, thank you for your comment and for reading my hub! I am glad you found the analysis interesting and you pointed out something that I had not noticed.

It IS a real man made to look like a mannequin! I agree with you that having a real man made to look like a mannequin adds more layers to the video. In some ways it leaves it as an open argument since the lyrics repeat "keep him by my side" and the end of the video returns the "wife" and "Angela Vickers" to two little girls who are no longer fighting for the same man's affections. Nice catch! If you come back to this page, what did you think the use of a real man made to look like mannequin adds to the video?

I love kimbra and her mvs, also the meanings in them. I think this adds even more layers to the video. Thank you for taking the time to read the hub and comment!
