Maximum life of a Mustang V6 Engine? Thread starter Fatguy Start date Nov 25, Fatguy Banned Banned. Since the Mustang V6 does not have the internal water pump which was the only major issue with this engine, this thing should run forever. One mechanic thinks that properly maintained it could possibly go ,km or , miles. So has anyone put some real miles on the 3.
Me thinks most will get bored with the car or it will simply rust way before the engine dies the way God intended. Anyone have an idea on longevity?
Nagare Well-Known Member. I know some of the Ss are over k already, mafiaboss is running one with k on it at the strip all the time now. Definitely not k yet, but there are probably some in the 80s already. I'm looking forward to mine lasting a long time with minimal issues. If I can make it without upgrading the car personal decision rather than necessity for another 9 years so probably around k on it, but the longest I've had a car is probably 3 years , I'll be in a great financial condition lol.
The 3. The motors remain stout and need very little to keep them going. I doubt anyone can put an exact mileage. Some are going to blow at 80k and some are going to run beyond k miles. And its literally a racecar. It has nothing but harsh punishment every single day on it.

I traded in a S that was loaded with everything luxury including the "brake performance package" which I found kind of bizarre and that car was a barge, the '16 felt way lighter and more nimble when I first drove it.
Absolutely the best cheapest foundation is a base S with PP1 to get the good diff and brakes, better chassis stiffening and get no other options. The IRS on the S just makes it a different animal altogether, forget about that stick axle making the thing tail happy. Find a base PP1 S and go for it, going to be a cheap buy since no one wants that kind of car. I drive it a fair bit, it's a nice highway car except for the exhaust drone which is just horrendous at some commonly used speeds.
Stock exhaust on it. Absolutely no way I would even think about taking that car on a track, it's an automatic but that's just one of the reasons it's not a track car. A ton of go fast in a straight line, sketchy as hell brakes and nowhere near enough grip. Everything needing service is difficult with it due to the way it's built, even just jacking the thing up can end up costing you a pile of money if you do it wrong. And if you think a S would be expensive to maintain you ain't seen nothin' yet, 'vette is GM's 'milk the money out of the old guys' platform.
This isn't wisdom, if I had any of that I wouldn't be doing this track car stuff at all, it's just my experience, good, bad, and ugly.

There's no discounting an older Mustang GT with a 5. Mad Hatter Gotta go Faster. Just put a really big wing on it!! Simple, no longer tail happy Grant basic and well known psychic. It was a while ago that I considered something similar.
Brake consumables might be another to look into. I'm sorry to say But if you are looking for a fun car fast. Ready to go and that doesn't cost too much the answer is camaro ss 1le.
I'm not sure i would buy a car of 10 years ago in these days. I mean look the engine i. Is minimum hp. Unthinkable 10 years ago without spending a fortune. Pretty much a very low buck car to drive and maintain. I'm just busting on Flyhalf, he's actually a great guy, For a Chevy guy He's been a valuable resource for my back issues.
I see things differently coming from racing C5Z I would go back to that in a heartbeat. I have had nothing but pain and big expense from my purchased new GT gutted into a racecar. Inside is perfect, custom hood, lowered, rims. James answered 8 years ago. If getting a V8 or engine swap is out of the question due to cost, I'd say adding exhaust components cold air intake, throttle body, shorty headers which are 50 state street legal as opposed to full-length, and full dual exhaust is a good start for low cost.
Also, rear end gears and underdrive pulleys are cheap mods that make a good impact on v6 power. UTIbound answered 7 years ago. Cary answered 6 years ago. My v6 does Randy answered 6 years ago. Did you have your V6 put on a dyno? Just curious as to what HP I'm making.
Only thing missing that won't be for long is the LSD. How did your gas milage change doing the gear? Stock i got I have a v6 with mods my next mod is hellions twin turbo. V6 mustangs are great cars even for performance. V8 stands are nice to but i am happy with what i have.
When people start installing mods its endless with any carmaker i have been hated on for moddng a v6 i saw a youtube clip of a gtr and a v6 mustang with mods running and the mustang won back to back.
So when people tell me i should buy a gt for more performance i tell them why settle there why dont you get a saleen. Trust me the v6 has so much potential and long tube headers over short are better and upgrading gear ratios on any car weather auto or manual will make a big difference depending if your racing dragging or street driving.
The most cost effective mod will be to sell the car and buy a V8. Honestly if you want a v6 and mod it well there is a lot of mods and v6 stangs that beat v8 after modifications v8 are nice to have but as soon as you modify a v8 then you can ask yourself o why didn't i buy a boss or a SALEEN or roush even a gt its a never ending process so if you really want mod a v6 or v8 then get what ever you want and mod it.
