How does the witches of oz end

There are four witches in Oz — one in each corner, or rather, one in each Cardinal Direction. Frank Baum laid out the powers that ruled the corners of Oz. In his first book, he detailed this witchy phenomenon:. I know this is true, for I am one of them myself, and cannot be mistaken. Those who dwelt in the East and the West were, indeed, wicked witches; but now that you have killed one of them, there is but one Wicked Witch in all the Land of Oz—the one who lives in the West.

So, four Witches? Is this a Star Wars dark lord of Sith-type limitation on the number of Witches? Glinda — Glinda is a good witch who rules over a peaceful kingdom of simple, kind folk. Beautiful Glinda is not only a compassionate and benevolent witch, but also a fierce protector of her people. With her penetrating gaze, she exudes a powerful presence and has positioned herself as the royal advisor and protector of Emerald City. Theodora — Theodora is a beautiful, naive witch who is protected by her powerful sister Evanora.

Theodora only wants peace to come to the Land of Oz and truly believes that a prophesied wizard will arrive someday to restore order. Then there is a silhouette of a witch in the fire. Who could this be? The Good Witch of the North is often confused with Glinda. Thanks for that. However, in the silent film, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz , this witch is named Momba in the intertitles or title cards. She is the most powerful of the Witches. According to the Soldier with Green Whiskers, Glinda:.

So she was the most beautiful of the four witches. Gayelette is the eternal sorceress who rules from the Ruby Palace in the lands of the North. She is a sorceress who exists in a different time than normal people — she does not ever age. She is more than one hundred years old. Her constant research keeps her too busy to pay attention to either matters of state or family. Kalinya rules over the Munchkins in the East as their unquestioned leader.

She is cruel and easily irritated. Her magic is telekinetic, and her greatest threat is to throw a person into the sky. She is clever and constantly schemes to gain more power, especially against her chief rival, Gayelette.

It is Kalinya who later becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the East. Ondri-baba is the homely and cruel younger sister of Kalinya. She is short and stocky, and fond of wearing ornate neckpieces. Her magic is invisibility. She has a magic eye that can see long distances; it can see what normal waking eyes cannot see.

Sonadia is only mentioned in the book. She met her untimely death under very mysterious circumstances. Through conversations with Kalinya and Glinda, we learn that Sonadia had powers over weather, and she taught some of these spells to Gayelette. Mombi is a strategist and political opportunist. Though her powers of transformation and disguise are well-known to the leaders of the various lands in Oz, Mombi seeks out the true positions of power — those behind the throne. The Good Witch of The North had two different names for the different adaptations Addapearle for the musical and Miss One for the movie.

In Return to Oz , Mombi is combined with Princess Langwidere , and thus has the ability to switch heads that she has magically collected. It is explained that the Patchwork Girl named Brianna knew her previously as a normal girl who became the new Wicked Witch after Dorothy melted the first one with the spirit transferring at random.

She is possessed by the Witch's spirit after a childhood encounter with an old lady in a cave. Dorothy Gale's descendant named D.

Both try to convince Oscar Diggs that Glinda is Wicked while they are good. The other Witches do appear but are rather minor in the series as Glinda, the Witch of the North, and a good Witch of the East have been waiting for a Witch of the West who would arrive as prophesied in the Book of Records.

They accept Zelena, but she turns against them, faking her death through the melting incident and switching places with the Wizard who she has changed into a winged monkey.

She banishes Glinda to a secret ice area of the Enchanted forest along with the other two witches to different areas. Mother South's death means there are no more witches being born in Oz. There are some strong points here: a generally likable story, an excellent cast with Christopher Lloyd, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Ethan Embry, his holiness Jeffrey Combs and more and a nice blend of elements from the original stories I appreciate making the slippers silver rather than ruby.

But the down side is its visual effects. The film was stronger when it was not using poor computer animation and had less makeup. The Wicked Witch could have looked human the whole time -- there was no purpose in having her transform. And it does not need to be three hours.

Trimming this down to two would make it a much stronger film, especially in scenes with an excess of conversation. There is rumored to be a director's cut with footage removed, the effects redone and more. I strongly suspect if this film exists that it is the better version. I was surprised at how bad this movie was. Choose your criteria and they will all come up bad. Really poor acting consistent with the junky TV series, shorts and D-level movies that fill out the actors other film credits.

Disjointed, jump around editing and directing producing a story that seemed like a bunch of half hour TV series patched together. Writing and script of a modern day Dorothy showing up at a farm house with a magical key to save Oz from the bad witches was a boring and too frequently copied plot line found in many fantasy movies.

Dialogue was written by the students in a high school drama class. A couple of cheap CGI effects of swirling air to represent Dorothy escaping Oz and of a tornado and some '60s era zapping effect from the witch's wand - that's it. This is a review of the close to 3 hour miniseries and not the considerably shorter theatrical release. The Witches of Oz is written and directed by Leigh Scott, a man who cut his teeth working at The Asylum, and if you're familiar with their work then alarm bells should already be ringing.

It sees an older Dorothy realising that the stories she writes of Oz are actually all true, and now the wicked witch is in our world to try and take over. This film is both ambitious and terrible for the most part. The first episode deals with painfully unfunny slapstick and cartoon caricatures.

The second episode turned into an all out battle and tried to be a lot darker. The film has its ups and downs. The likes of Lloyd and Henriksen give great performances as they usually do, especially Hendrcksen who has a lot of experience in no budget territory. But we also have two Lord Of The Rings alumni trying hard not to die of embarrassment on screen. It's hard to tell with Astin and Boyd whether they are simply giving bad performances on purpose or if Jackson was just a much better director when dealing with actors.

No doubt these two looked around the set and couldn't believe what their I'm guessing by now, former agents had gotten them into. Still, it's hard not to admire Scott's ambition and vision. He uses practical and computer effects well, and some of the designs are pretty cool, especially the Tin-Man.

It obviously has designs on being a big epic fantasy, but it's impossible to take it seriously. I hear the hour shorter director's cut has better effects and is better concerning the pacing. There's certainly enough to make a child friendly kids TV special, maybe at the minute mark, but I wouldn't sit through the whole thing again.

I kind of had enough hopes for this to watch it and maybe I could like something this guy did. Oh my god I was wrong. Okay first of all, I should tell you all that I absolutely love the idea of Oz, a magical world that children can escape to and make it their own, a lot can be done with that. Return To Oz, the film, is actually my all time favourite film so I am more than open to any Oz adaptation. How does an independent film company make a movie about Oz when its run by Leigh Scott?

I'm not convinced they did. So lets take a look. The film starts off with a Middle Earth style narration explaining that a munchkin created Oz when the world was full of magic and when it was created Wicked Witches were at war with the Wizard. He decides to give them a book with a word that can make anything happen, the key to the book is missing, only to be with Dorothy, magical crap happens and they get transported to s America. Confused yet? Get used to it. So Dorothy grows up and becomes a children's writer who writes stories about Oz it turns out that a talent agency wants to sell the book and hopefully get it published.

When she goes to New York the place everyone associates with Oz! First of all the talent agent requests Dorothy sex's herself up and when they get into the publisher's, they want the Dorothy in the book to wear skintight leather pants and jacket after real Dorothy says that fictional Dorothy is 11 years old!

Okay, Leigh, you do realize that this is a family film? Not only that but the way the publisher reveals it is so dumb that Peter Griffin would laugh at it. There is so many things wrong with this scene that it's just not funny. Almost everyone has grown up with at least one version of the Oz story being told to them. Did anyone actually read this scene aloud before filming it? You can't throw crap like this at an audience and expect them to go along with it! So, lets just say for the sake of the review that you'd keep watching this movie after that scene, Eventually it gets revealed that real Dorothy and fictional Dorothy are one who would've guessed?

Then Uncle Henry left a letter for her after he died revealing that she was his Aunt thanks to the fact that she went into a tornado into the land of Oz and stayed there with enough time for years to pass and when she was transported back, they Uncle Henry and Aunt Em - Em doesn't have a single line in this movie, by the way raised her as their own.

This is the dumbest twist in a movie since Monster A-Go Go, this is like magic moonbeam dolphins on the titanic, there is no way that Scott gave a crap when writing this scene.

Okay so yet again, lets just say, hypothetically, you kept watching after that twist, its revealed that the talent agent is actually the Wicked Witch of the West who is also coincidentally played by the actual movie's producer at least they got SOMETHING correct, anyone who financially backs THIS while reading the script has to be evil!

They go through this rushed climax, even though the people of New York act like there's nothing wrong when Dragons are on the empire state building how would people not notice that?

When were there dragons in Oz?! How did that get no attention?! Dorothy tells the Witch how many good time they had no they didn't and she saw the good in her how?

My complaints about the plot The CGI is awful, when the graphics of Pong and Space Invaders are better than that of a movie your making, stop making movies! The acting is pretty awful and if you look at the cast you'll see that is no easy thing to buy, you have Sean Astin, Christopher Lloyd and Lance Hendricksen in the cast. They all give pretty bad performances because the best actress out of the whole movie Overall this movie did not just not understand what Oz was about, oh, it understood, but it was made as a movie with one goal in mind - to destroy everything about it that made it credible.

They spend all their time in this movie in New York. Yeah, an Oz film spends more time in New York than Oz! This movie is without a single doubt in my mind the worst movie ever made.

Avoid this movie at all costs. I actually forgot to mention the book with the word Think about that. Hang all involved OrderedChaos 16 July Let me start off by saying i have given this crap heap one more extra star than it should get due to being allowed to be shown on TV. That alone is so laughable that it earns the second star. Also like the front review shows this is by far thee most brilliant attempt at ruining a classic.

It's as though Leigh Scott was paid with the strict intention of crapping on a classic. The cast must of hated the originals sooooo bad that they just felt it was their job to create "The Witches of Oz" A power rangers special lol. Overall if a child is entertained by this filth seek immediate attention as you child may be in need of serious help.

No seriously the kids wont even have a fighting chance at life if they are exposed to this. Put it this way i am not one to usually care for leaving IMDb reviews and i am sad enough to be entertained by the likes of "Smallville" and "Supernatural" Even "Vampire Dairies" So i am very easily pleased :D Please do not give any further funding or projects to this production.

It seems as though someone made it their life's work to out do Uwe Boll shame on you hehe Oh and whilst kind of being on the subject, Uwe you need your head checked you sell out slime ballo lol. Apparently, a review has to be a minimum of ten lines. This precludes the fully descriptive, yet terse, review I had in mind. For this TV limited series, a full review would be, "Garbage!

In fact, I give a very wide artistic license. In this case, there were some specific problems which I could not overcome. These included: 1. Horrible, stilted, inexcusable writing!

Someone took the seed of an idea, crushed it under their heel and then applied Agent Orange to assure its death.

Wooden acting! I am usually not that hard to please but in this case, I was truly unsure at many points whether the actress who played Dorothy was being replaced by a wax figure.

Cruelty to a dog's career! As I watched, I noted that the dog playing Toto was immobile throughout the series. Perhaps this was done on purpose, to act as a foil to the face frozen lead actress. Still, this is a low point in the career of what may be a talented dog. Horrid effects! This is The effects in this movie could easily be exceeded by an 8 year old playing on their parents' computer.

I rarely write reviews of television or movies. But this show inspired me to warn you, the potential viewer to avoid it. Do not waste any precious moments of your life on this steaming pile of munchkin excrement. I am a huge fan of the original L. Frank Baum books, and this movie admittedly does not follow the source material very well. The movie has many effects, which are low budget, but very imaginative, and it is clear real effort has been put in.

The cinematography, art direction, lighting, and score are all beautiful. To all the people complaining about how the book doesn't follow the original books, just try to suspend your disbelief! I personally love the acting, even though it is at times cartoonish. Oz itself is a fantasy, so the acting should not be as subtle as a different, darker film.

Most of the actors are relatively new, and hopefully this will lead to new and exciting opportunities for all involved, including famed B-movie director Leigh Scott.

Once upon a time there was a movie with witches and wizards who didn't walk on their knees and pretend to be a ugly and terrible actors, this was in the days of large movie studios who knew how to draft a plot, unfortunately the studio who made this had neither talent or money and was probably a Saturday drunken barbecue idea and just got together some leftover makeup, a couple of cameras and some funny hats from the fancy dress shop.

It had no consistent theme kept drifting about and throwing out ideas as to why things would happen, it was as bad as any east European drama from the deep dark days of the old communist regimes. I have tried to be constructive about this but it was so appalling as to be beyond all recovery.

This movie doesn't necessarily deserve an 8. I'd say really a 7 or so, but because of all the judgement it's clearly getting, it would only be fair to give it a higher rating to help it out.

It definitely earned more than a 4. Pretty Painful Graz-4 15 July The Witches of Oz — oh dear! If you're expecting a film with lots of modern effects as seen for example in "The Season of The Witch" Nicolas Cage then prepare to be disappointed.

When fights happen, eg: Tin Man and baddie, no teeth are spat out, no bruises seen, no cuts, no grazes, nothing of this nature throughout the entire film. Not even from wand-plasma. The story is tied-in cleverly from the original, and the individual star actors acting is good as usual and expected, but somehow this film just doesn't gel. Doubtless kids will like it, esp girls I think.

But I have to say that I observe that many computer games that children have seem to be more blood and gutsy. I enjoyed the modern "Alice in Wonderland" film much more. Not sure if it was an intentional plant but Christopher Lloyd is seen driving a Yellow Cab in this too. Shades of "Taxi"? In the end what kept me watching was those beautiful big brown Mexican eyes on the pretty face of the lead Paulie Rojas Dorothy Gale.

I had hopes for this I hate to say it but there was so much that disappointed me! I should point out that a majority of the cast were actually excellent with the poor script they were given. Unfortunately the one person that had to carry it all simply couldn't. Dorothy was so pathetic and wooden I honestly didn't care whether she lived or died and that's a first for me.
