It might feel bad if you are unable to win when someone else discards your winning tile while your hand is furiten.
However, the furiten rule adds a great deal of depth to the game. To avoid this, in certain situations, you may want to defend, rather than trying to complete your own hand. Defending mainly takes advantage of the furiten rule.
